How Often Does Your Mercedes Need an Alignment?

Mercedes Steering Wheel Vibration

Your Mercedes needs the best care in order to sustain its luxurious feel. One of the ways through which this care is administered is through wheel alignment checks. But how frequently should the alignment be adjusted? Let’s turn our attention to the ways you can know that you need alignment and determine the frequency of alignment for your Mercedes.

Symptoms That Indicate Your Mercedes-Benz Requires An Alignment

  • Uneven Tire Wear: If you see that the tread on your tires is thinning in certain areas, this is a clear indication that you have a problem with your wheel’s alignment. The alignment problem has a tendency of being detected early if you pay attention to your tires and look out for any signs of uneven wear.
  • Pulling to One Side: Ideally, when traveling, your car should maintain a straight line without the need to constantly adjust the steering. If your Mercedes is pulling to either side then you know your car’s alignment is off and needs to be corrected.
  • Squealing Tires: Any squealing noise originating from the tires especially when making turns might be indicative of alignment issues. This noise may be a result of the tires wearing out unevenly or the tires are not well aligned.
  • Steering Wheel Vibration: Misaligned wheels make the steering wheel vibrate. Whenever you get a vibration when driving particularly at high speeds, it is advisable that you have your alignment checked. It could also be a result of other problems so it is advisable to get it looked at as soon as possible.
  • Poor Handling: If your car feels unstable when driving or sways on the road, then it is possible that the wheels are misaligned. Proper alignment gives your car good handling and reflects the correct response to the steering wheel.
  • Crooked Steering Wheel: If the steering wheel is not in the middle of the car when you are driving straight, then there is misalignment. The steering wheel should be straight when the car is in motion, or moving in a straight line. If it is skewed to one side, then it is high time to go to the service center.

How Frequently Do You Need to Get Your Alignment Checked?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to how often you should have your Mercedes alignment checked, but here are some general guidelines to help you decide when it’s time for an alignment check.

  • Every 6,000 to 10,000 Miles: It is recommended that you get an alignment check every 6,000 to 10,000 miles of driving. This is usually the time that is advised for tire rotations and therefore it is easy to have both done at the same time. Sticking to this schedule helps avoid situations when the alignment is off, which would result in uneven tire wear and poor handling.
  • Annually: If you are not driving up to 6,000 miles in a year then it is still recommended to get your alignment checked at least once a year. This way, any small irregularity that may have occurred will be detected and corrected before it leads to extensive damage to your tires.
  • After Major Impacts: If you run over a large pothole, curb or if you are involved in an accident you should take your car for an alignment check immediately. Such impacts can easily cause your wheels to get misaligned which results in poor handling and the tires wearing out unevenly.
  • New Tires: If you recently got your tires replaced, it is recommended that you have the alignment checked as well. Correct alignment means that your new tires will wear out evenly and will give you a longer service.
